This video provides a description of Minimum Dataset 3 (MDS) and Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS). The content details the purpose and uses of each data source, provides a detailed description of new sections added in MDS 3.0, and discusses examples from practice.

This presentation defines the different types of cost-to-charge ratios (CCRs), how to use these CCRs, and the locations of the CCRs in the data files.  The segment walks through an example of how to apply CCRs to adjust charges in order to arrive at an estimated "cost."

This presentation provides background information about the cost reports that will help researchers understand the cost report data.  This presentation includes a description of how cost reports are processed and how that impacts the data. This presentation also describes common issues researchers face when using the cost reports and options for dealing with those issues.

For each of the CMS claim file types, the variables used in calculating costs for CMS covered services is reviewed. Calculations are defined by 1) what Medicare reimbursed; 2) the beneficiary's responsibility; 3) other primary payers, and then 4) total due to the provider. The presentation also includes issues to be considered when calculating costs.

Due to encrypted pharmacy and prescriber identifiers in the PDE data, researchers may require additional information related to the dispensing pharmacy and the prescriber. This presentation reviews the Pharmacy and the Prescriber Characteristics files that are available to link to the PDE data. A brief overview of the sources of the data in each file and key variables in each file are discussed.
