ENTITY_COND_1 (through ENTITY_COND_20)
These fields identify the underlying causes of death as listed by the certifier of death (formatted but not audited). From 1999-2006 there were up to 8 codes, and from 2007-2013 there are up to 20 codes.
Position1: Part/line number on certificate
1 = Part I, line 1 (a)
2 = Part I, line 2 (b)
3 = Part I, line 3 (c)
4 = Part I, line 4 (d)
5 = Part I, line 5 (e)
6 = Part II
Position 2: Sequence of condition within part/line Code range:1-7
Position 3-6: Condition code (ICD-10 code)
Whenever there is a 4-position code, there is always an implied decimal after the 3rd position.
Position 7: Nature of Injury flag (only for ICD-9 codes)
1 = the code in positions 3-6 is a Nature of Injury ICD-9 code
0 = all other codes
