Starting on April 1, 2013, the Budget Control Act of 2011 reduced Medicare payments to all providers by 2 percent through a mechanism known as sequestration. This reduction applies only to the Medicare payment amount and does not affect beneficiaries’ liability for deductibles or coinsurance. The effects of this reduction are reflected in the Medicare claim payment amount (variable called PMT_AMT).
