The edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Cancer Staging manual used to describe the patient’s cancer stage.

For any initial diagnosis date (INITL_DGNS_DT) after 1/1/2018, this variable indicates whether the AJCC 7th edition or the AJCC 8th Edition was reported. AJCC 7th Edition is effective for cancer patients diagnosed through 12/31/2017; AJCC 8th Edition is effective for cancer patients diagnosed on or after 1/1/2018. To support participants that did not have AJCC 8th Edition staging available, the OCM Data Registry accepted either AJCC 7th Edition or AJCC 8th Edition staging values for cancer patients diagnosed on or after 1/1/2018.
